Principal Profile
Prof. (Dr.) Fr. Davis PV CMI is the Founding Principal of Christ Academy Institute of Law, having led the institution since its inception in 2017. With nearly a decade at the helm, he has been the guiding force behind CAIL’s growth, steering it with a clear and steadfast vision of establishing the college as one of the premier law institutions in India.
A legal scholar, canonist, and academic administrator, Fr. Davis brings together a rare blend of expertise in Indian civil law, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and Catholic canon law. He holds a Ph.D. in Law and an LL.M. from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, along with an LL.B. and B.A. from Calicut University, and a Licentiate in Oriental Canon Law (LOCL), B.Th., and B.Ph. from Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram (DVK), Bangalore.
Beyond his role at CAIL, he serves as an Academic Council Member at Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) and as a Ph.D. examiner for NLSIU. A prolific author with 18 published books and syllabus handbooks to his credit, his research spans rural dispute resolution, constitutional law, gender and personal laws, environmental justice, and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence in ADR. He is also actively engaged in human rights and grassroots legal aid initiatives, and holds memberships in the Bar Council of India, the Canon Law Society of India, and the Oriental Canon Law Society of India.
Under his dynamic leadership, CAIL continues to grow steadily, anchored in his unwavering commitment to academic excellence, ethical values, and holistic legal education.
